What is the controversy with Higg Index?

In June 2022, Norrona, a Norwegian outdoor brand, publicly declared that it was pausing the use of data from the Higg index. They used data from the Higg MSI to show customers the benefits of organic cotton compared to conventional cotton in terms of water use and global warming. The Norwegian consumer watchdog considered the data was misleading in the way it was used, since:

  • The Authority could not find evidence of the claim.
  • The information is given about the average environmental impact of a particular material, not a specific product.
  • There are limitations in the methodology.
  • The underlying data is partly outdated.

And what is BCome’s position on this controversy? In the following questions you will understand how BCome differentiates itself from Higg and how it fights against misleading publications.
