To understand if your Circular Economy Indicators (CEI) results are good or bad, BCome provides a clear framework that rates your score as low, medium, or high.
The CEI score is a percentage from 0% to 100%, where 100% represents a fully circular product. These three ratings help you quickly interpret your product’s performance.
CEI Performance ratings
Your CEI score is categorized into the following performance ratings:
CEI Score (%) | Rating |
66% – 100% | High |
33% – 66% | Medium |
0% – 33% | Low |
A deeper look at the ratings
To provide more detail, these general ratings can be broken down into more specific performance levels.
- High (66% – 100%) A high rating indicates an excellent and holistic approach to circularity.
- Scores in the Leading range (approx. 70-90%) are for products made from a very high percentage of circular inputs and designed for effective end-of-life cycling.
- Scores in the Restorative range (approx. 90-100%) are exceptional, representing products that may even help regenerate natural systems.
- Medium (33% – 66%) A medium rating shows a solid commitment to circular principles, with clear opportunities for further improvement.
- Scores in the Progressing range (approx. 30-50%) indicate a good start, with some circular elements incorporated.
- Scores in the Advanced range (approx. 50-70%) demonstrate a strong commitment, with significant circular practices already in place.
- Low (0% – 33%) A low rating indicates an initial engagement with circular design, with the product still being largely based on a linear model.
- This corresponds to the Beginning level, where a product may have one or two circular features but is not yet comprehensively designed for a circular system.
Breakdown of key sub-indicators
To give you a more detailed view, the overall CEI score is influenced by several key metrics. Understanding these can help you identify specific areas for improvement.
- Recycled Content (%) This metric measures the percentage of recycled material in your product. A higher percentage signifies a greater use of circular resources and contributes positively to your overall score.
- Total Unrecoverable Waste (kg) This indicator measures the total mass (in kg) of your product’s material that is expected to become unrecoverable waste (e.g., sent to landfill) at its end-of-life. For this metric, a lower value is better.
- Utility (% Improvement) This metric measures the percentage of improvement in how intensively your product is used compared to an industry-average product. A score greater than 0% is a positive result, indicating that your product is designed for a longer or more frequent use than the standard.
