What are the four pillars of the Eco-Score?

The BCome Eco-Score provides a holistic view of a product’s sustainability by assessing it across four key areas, or “pillars”. Each pillar focuses on a different aspect of performance, and together they create a comprehensive and balanced score.

Planet

This pillar measures the direct environmental footprint of a product’s supply chain. It covers the responsible use of natural resources, including the sustainability of raw materials, management of water and energy, responsible chemical use, and the impact of packaging and transport.

People

This pillar assesses the social and ethical impacts on all stakeholders. It evaluates the protection of labor rights and working conditions for employees, the engagement with and impact on local communities, and the commitment to animal welfare throughout the supply chain.

Circularity

This pillar evaluates how well a product is designed for a circular economy, aiming to eliminate waste. It assesses practices like designing for durability and recyclability, implementing circular business models (like repair or take-back programs), and effectively managing production waste.

Transparency

This pillar measures how openly a brand shares information about its products and practices. It covers the traceability of the supply chain (knowing and sharing who your suppliers are) and corporate governance, such as publishing sustainability reports and committing to corporate responsibility standards.
