What happens if my material or my process is not registered in the database?

If your specific material or production process isn’t already in our database, we have a clear and collaborative process to add it. Our goal is to ensure our database is always growing to include the latest innovations while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy.

Here is the step-by-step process we follow.

1. Identification and scoping

The first step is to notify the BCome team. You can provide us with the name, technical specifications, and any known supplier details for the material or process you wish to add. Our experts will work with you to understand its unique characteristics and scope out the data requirements.

2. Data collection strategy

Once the material is identified, we determine the best way to collect the necessary data. There are two primary pathways:

  • Primary data (most accurate): The ideal approach is to collect primary data directly from the specific supplier. This involves gathering their actual operational data, such as energy consumption, water usage, and waste output. This method provides the most precise results but depends on the supplier’s willingness and ability to provide the information.
  • Secondary data (proxy modeling): If primary data is not available, our experts will use the best available secondary data to create a representative dataset. This can involve:
    • Reviewing existing scientific literature and databases for relevant information.
    • Building a proxy model by adapting the dataset of a similar, well-understood material or process to fit the new item’s characteristics.

3. Modeling and integration

After the data has been collected and verified, our team models the environmental impact of the new material or process. The new dataset is then integrated into the BCome platform, making it available for you to use in your assessments.

Timelines and expectations

Because this process involves in-depth research, data collection, and scientific modeling, adding a new material or process requires additional time. Once we have scoped the request, our team will provide you with an estimated timeline.
